What is a SIN?
A Social Insurance Number (SIN) is required to work in Canada.
Step 1: Prepare documents
- Valid passport
- Work permit or Study permit
- Proof of address
Step 2: Visit Service Canada
Find the nearest Service Canada office at servicecanada.gc.ca
Step 3: Apply
- Bring original documents
- Fill out the application form on-site
- Your SIN will be mailed to you within 5-10 business days
Important Notes
- Never share your SIN with anyone except your employer and government agencies
- Keep your SIN in a safe place, do not carry it in your wallet
